EKUM didn’t begin with a big business plan. It began with a thought — what if I built something of my own?
After an earlier partnership in ethnic wear didn’t work out, I found myself working as a bookkeeper for an Australian firm. Somewhere between the routine of work and figuring out what came next, the idea of building something of my own kept returning. Having already worked with fabrics, sizing, and fits, I began exploring streetwear. But from the beginning, I knew I didn’t want to simply put graphics on T-shirts and call it a brand. I wanted to understand what makes clothing worth wearing. So I started from the ground up — buying pieces from different brands, studying their fabrics, construction, stitching, fits, quality, pricing, and the details that often go unnoticed but make all the difference. Then came the harder part: turning ideas into actual products. Working with suppliers and manufacturers taught me how much goes into creating something that looks simple from the outside. There were failed samples, fabric issues, printing problems, production delays, suppliers that didn’t work out, and plenty of moments when I questioned whether the journey was worth continuing.
So we started cutting our own. Every drop is designed, dyed and finished in small batches — not because it's trendy, but because it's the only way we can keep quality up and stock scarce. What started as three friends solving their own wardrobe problem is now a team of twelve, still doing it the same way: slow, small, and on our own terms.
At one point, life made me step away.
This time, with more clarity about what I wanted to build — and what I didn’t.
But I came back
After countless conversations, ideas, and rejected names, EKUM finally came to life
We started with something familiar: T-shirts. But the intention was never to create just another T-shirt. We wanted every piece to carry something — a thought, a feeling, a struggle, an attitude, or a part of someone’s personality. Something you can relate to without having to explain it. That philosophy extends beyond the clothes. From the products we create to the way we package them, we believe in keeping things thoughtful, functional, and intentional — never adding something simply for the sake of it. Today, EKUM is still evolving. We’re learning. Experimenting. Making mistakes. Improving. And building again. We don’t claim to have everything figured out — and perhaps that’s exactly what makes this journey ours. Because EKUM was never built to be perfect. It was built to be real. And this is only the beginning.
